Innovation from the Smart Baseball Capital of the World
Taiwan has transformed from a baseball-loving nation into a global leader in sports technology innovation. From the world’s first smart baseball to AI-powered pitching machines and precision electronic strike zones, Taiwan is redefining how baseball is trained, played, and analyzed.

About Taiwan’s Baseball Innovation Legacy
Baseball has been played in Taiwan for over a century, dating back to the Japanese colonial era when the first organized teams formed in Taipei in 1906 . Today, Taiwan stands as a unique bridge between traditional baseball wisdom and cutting-edge sports science — a “living lab” where engineers, coaches, and athletes collaborate to push the boundaries of what’s possible.

STRIKE Smart Baseball — World’s First Smart Baseball

| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Developer | Jingletek (勁格貝爾運動科技), Tainan |
| Launch | 2021 (CES debut as featured Taiwan startup) |
| Status | Mass production, exported internationally |
The STRIKE smart baseball is the world’s first baseball with embedded sensors capable of measuring spin rate, rotational axis, velocity, trajectory, pop-time, and location. The ball meets official MLB size and weight requirements and features wireless charging.
Origin Story: The 2013 World Baseball Classic, where Taiwan lost to Japan by a narrow margin, inspired Jingletek founder Ching Lun Lin to develop data-driven training tools. “We want to be the bridge between players and coaches,” Lin said.
Impact: Over 10,000 pitchers have used STRIKE, with more than 280,000 pitches collected. STRIKE 2.0 now serves catchers and infielders with pop-time tracking and slow-motion video analysis.
Distribution: Available in the U.S. through D-BAT, the nation’s largest baseball training center chain with over 145 locations.

Taiwan Smart Pitching Machine — Projection Technology Pioneer

| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Developer | National Sports Science Center (國家運動科學中心) |
| Launch | 2026 (deployed for WBC preparation) |
| Unique Feature | Projection mapping of pitcher delivery motion |
Taiwan’s smart pitching machine features a world-first innovation: projection technology that displays the opponent pitcher’s delivery motion on a screen in front of the machine, allowing batters to visually adapt to arm slots and release points before the ball is thrown.
The machine also features precise seam control technology to simulate authentic spin and movement patterns. Deployed at the National Training Center alongside the U.S.-made iPitch, the Taiwan version focuses on visual simulation — a capability even advanced systems like iPitch do not offer.

Taiwan Hawk-Eye (Karma Zone) — MIT Electronic Strike Zone

| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Developer | Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) / Ministry of Economic Affairs |
| Accuracy | <1cm margin of error (targeting 5mm) |
| Deployment | Taipei Dome, Taichung Intercontinental Stadium, Tianmu Stadium |
Taiwan developed its own electronic strike zone system, nicknamed “Taiwan Hawk-Eye,” using six high-speed cameras to track pitch trajectory and location. The system achieves accuracy rivaling MLB’s Hawk-Eye system and has been deployed in major Taiwanese stadiums.
Unique advantage: Beyond strike zone detection, the system also provides swing analysis for batters, making it a dual-purpose training and officiating tool.
