About the Exhibit
The Taiwan Smart Pitching Machine represents a world-first innovation in baseball training technology. While smart pitching machines exist in other baseball nations (such as the US-made iPitch), Taiwan’s version features a unique capability that no other system offers: projection mapping of pitcher delivery motion.
Developed by Taiwan’s National Sports Science Center, this machine was designed specifically to address a critical training gap identified by the national team coaching staff. Traditional pitching machines throw accurate pitches but fail to prepare batters for the visual experience of facing a live pitcher — the arm slot, release point, windup rhythm, and body language that help batters time their swings.
The Taiwan Smart Pitching Machine bridges this gap by projecting an actual pitcher’s delivery motion onto a screen in front of the machine, creating a complete visual simulation that prepares batters for both the look and the speed of international-level pitching.
The Innovation: Projection + Precision Control
The Taiwan Smart Pitching Machine combines two breakthrough technologies that set it apart from any other pitching machine on the market.
1. Projection Simulation (World First)
The machine projects the opponent pitcher’s delivery motion onto a screen positioned in front of the throwing mechanism. This allows batters to:
| Training Benefit | Explanation |
|---|---|
| Visual adaptation | See the pitcher’s arm slot, release point, and windup rhythm before the ball is thrown |
| Timing preparation | Sync their swing timing with the pitcher’s actual delivery cadence |
| International readiness | Simulate pitchers they have never faced in person |
| Repetition without fatigue | Practice against the same pitcher’s motion repeatedly without wearing out live arms |
2. Precision Seam Control
Beyond visual simulation, the machine features sophisticated ball control technology:
| Capability | Description |
|---|---|
| Seam orientation control | Precise control over ball stitching alignment to simulate authentic spin patterns |
| Speed range | Capable of professional-level velocities |
| Pitch type simulation | Fastballs, curveballs, sliders, and other breaking balls |
| Location accuracy | Consistent strike zone placement for targeted training |

Dual-Track Training Strategy: Taiwan Machine + iPitch
A distinctive feature of Taiwan’s 2026 WBC preparation is the dual-track approach — using both the domestically-developed smart pitching machine and the US-made iPitch system simultaneously.
| Machine | Origin | Strengths |
|---|---|---|
| Taiwan Smart Pitching Machine | Taiwan | Visual projection simulation, seam control, adapted for specific opponent pitchers |
| iPitch | United States | Precise speed and spin rate simulation, MLB validation, cloud-based pitching database |
How They Work Together:
“iPitch excels at precisely simulating professional-level speeds and spin rates, while the Taiwan version focuses on visual simulation and fine details. Both machines are now deployed at the National Training Center, allowing coaches to flexibly choose based on daily training objectives.”
Motion Analysis Integration:
In addition to the pitching machines, the National Sports Science Center has deployed a high-end motion analysis system that provides real-time feedback on hitting and pitching data, enhancing scouting and training effectiveness.
Deployment for 2026 World Baseball Classic
